Navigation Table Project The project was to design a table device to hold my slim laptop up out of my way, but where I could see the screen at a glance. I had purchased a USB GPS device (GPS Receiver, GPS Mouse, BU-303) from the WEB and found that it worked well with MS Streets & Trips software. This is the finished project:
The key to the project is this bracket that I designed. It is fabricated from 1/8 inch Stainless Steel by a local shop.
The bracket mounts at the passenger seat front attachment points; the existing studs and bolts are used. A 1" pipe flange is used along with this 4" section of threaded pipe (with 10-32 wing screws installed in tapped holes).
The table is made up from 3/4" pipe section, into a 3/4 to 1/2 reducer, several sections of threaded 1/2 in pipe, 1/2 pipe elbows, and a 1/2" flange attached to a 'cut to size' 3/8" thick piece of black ABS plastic. Velcro covers the bottom of the table to hold the DC/AC inverter and laptop and cell phone AC adapters. And the pipe is covered by a black mesh shrink tubing material.
And the table dropped into place. The wing screws are used to put some drag on the pivoting of the table... but still allow it to be pushed out of way when desired.
That's it.
